WITH YOUR HANDS

WITH YOUR HANDS

Image

A wise old man once told me

Some words so deep in truth

That I didn’t see their purpose

While deep within my youth

But as the years have passed

And people come and gone

The loving things he said to me

Have helped me stumble on

He said “You can’t turn the water into wine

And even if you try . . . you can’t turn back time

You can’t build a life on a tarnished wedding band

You can’t unfold a flower with your hands.”

Cause life can get the best of me

The trail can get rough

And all the things I should have done

Would never be enough

I think about the best of him

When sorrow counts my days

His words ring truer now than not

There is another way

He said, “It’s always the right time to be forgiving

Always the right time to make amends

It is always the right time  . . .  to think about your peace of mind

It’s always the right time to start again

It is always the right time to search for meaning

To make a choice and carry something through

To realize the problem’s resolution

Is in the power of love you find you.”

Cause you can’t turn the water into wine

And even if you try  . . . you can’t turn back time

You can’t build a life on a tarnished wedding band

It’s a dried up, wrinkled flower in your hands . . .

Don’t hold onto memories like a tarnished wedding band

You can’t unfold a flower with your hands . . .”
