The De-Energizer Mummy: Chasing My Own Shadow

The year was 1932 and the world was scared out of its wits by Boris Karloff’s horror flick, The Mummy.  According to the official trailer, it is Stranger than Dracula; More fantastic than Frankenstein; More mysterious than ‘The Invisible Man!”

The dramatic announcer states in an ominous voice that it, ‘stands your hair on end and brings a scream to your lips’!!!

This old film is too cool, but its old, and it’s a film.  We understand that this classic film is not based on real-life events.

Have you ever felt like your version of The Mummy?  Walking around feeling half-dead, so wrapped up in all the busy-ness and concerns of living that you never feel truly free?

Master coach Rich Litvin states, You can never get enough of what you don’t really need.  What does this mean to you?

Are you chasing someone else’s dream for you?  Are you living up to someone else’s expectations?

We all know the commercials featuring the Energizer Bunny, but what if the bunny had a shadow side…the De-Energizer Mummy?

Instead of being a bright in-your-face PINK, it is a dull, bland version of black & white.  Instead of being fuzzy and touchable, it is wrapped in a dusty, ragged shroud of rags?  Instead of being full of life, showing up for the camera…keepin’ on keepin’ on…it is stumbling around in a half-life glaze, simply going through the motions of living?  Instead of offering the viewer a provocative, Follow me…it is intent on finding a victim and create more just like itself?

Which version makes you smile?  Which version would you wish to demonstrate to the world?  Which version would you choose to teach to a child?

We may not choose to be a teacher or a leader.  We may be finding it challenging enough to wake up on this side of the grass each day and do what needs to be done so we feel that we are living and not simply existing.

But everyone is an example for someone.

You came to life for a reason.  If you haven’t already done so, it is up to you to summon the spirit of the warrior and begin the quest to find your reason.  To find your passion.

Who is your primary motivator for living your best life?
Who do you deeply desire to make proud?
Who do you deeply desire to connect with on a daily basis?

Your partner?  Your child?  Your parent?  Your friend?  Your community?  YOU?

Your part is vital.  It is up to you to throw off that old shroud, stop chasing your shadow, and believe it.

Sister warrior, you are not alone.  I know this feeling well.  Here is an excerpt from my song, Tenderize, to which you  may relate:

She spent too much time,
On the run from her own feelings.
Way too much time,
walking the cusp of the past.
From her vulgar femininity
she prayed for deliverance.
Denying her own passions and
living someone else’s dreams.

It’s time to tenderize…
look at herself with tender eyes,
and believe that she’s a lady,
and to give that lady love…
